BooKo (Pavlović Žarko) — a fusion of the English word book and the Serbian oko, with associations to sound and the book.
His musical sensibility was not shaped by electronic music. He matured musically by following a wide range of traditions grounded in live instruments, diligently collecting exceptional and rare releases.
At the turn of the two centuries, established musical practices began to lose their momentum, while new forms of expression gradually took shape. Music as it was known in the twentieth century ceased to be a reference point for his interests.
In the early 2000s, through the work of labels such as 12k, LINE, Kranky, Touch, Raster-Noton, and Home Normal, he opened himself to contemporary ambient and experimental practices.
Abstract, quiet, and deeply intimate, this music demands attentive listening and remains outside the sphere of mass visibility.
Through his writing, BooKo seeks to promote contemporary ambient and experimental practices and to share the experience of attentive listening with others.
